Sandman’s Blues

Sandman’s Blues

a sweaty mess of insomnia falls into bed

shaken inner child finds no peace

there is no time limit in a haunted house

old covers pulled tight until morning

shaken inner child finds no serenity

trazadone and melatonin tonight’s alchemy

old covers pulled tight until morning

spirits push cruelty into high-def dreams

trazadone and melatonin tonight’s alchemy

shallow breathing mantra to drift off

spirits push cruelty into alcoholic dreams

days of brandy and tequila are overrated

shallow breathing mantra to drift off

heart rate lowers hands are steady

days of brandy and tequila are overrated

difference between sleep and passing out

heart rate lowers hands are steady

REM sleep happens just before the dawn

difference between sleep and passing out

manifests vivid ghosts with hands to throat

REM sleep disturbed just before dawn

heart pounding gasping breath eyes wide

startles vivid ghost with hands to throat

body springs forward out of bed

heart pounding gasping breath eyes wide

there is a moment the kitchen is in view

body springs forward to the living room

you cannot walk away from your dreams

there is a moment the kitchen is in view

bare footed zombie turns on Keurig

you cannot walk away from your dreams

write them down with sketchy memory

bare footed zombie turns on Keurig

coffee has a calming effect in the dark

write down dreams with sketchy memory

a sweaty mess of insomnia sits in the kitchen
